what is HUT all about?
We’re all hockey lovers, that’s the main thing. And we know that good umpiring can make a game more enjoyable for the players and bad umpiring can ruin it. But what’s good and what’s bad?
Traditionally, this has revolved around endless analysis and interpretations of rules and decisions, often descending into the over-elaborate or sometimes down a rabbit hole. Just look at how football has got its knickers in a twist with VAR.
- We want to challenge conventional thinking and turn it on its head.
- We want to focus on the game and not the rules.
- We don’t know the answers, by the way, but we do know some good questions!
There is no blueprint, no template.
Unshackled by not being a Governing Body or an Umpiring Association, or anything official at all, we want to explore – with you – a range of different ways of viewing the skills – and pitfalls – of umpiring.
Are we visionaries or are we bonkers?
That’s for you to decide. But we hope to have some fun along the way, viewing umpiring through a different lens.
